Delta Alpha Chapter History
|
In fall 2003, Sandra Sosa became aware of the rapid population growth of Latinos at the University of Georgia. With this in mind, she saw the need for a Latina sorority to support and cater to the needs of Latina women on campus. Sandra researched and compared various organizations on the Internet until she came across Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.’s national website.
In October 2003, Sandra brought Pia Duprat, Vanessa Uribe, and Linda Garcia together to discuss the possibility of bringing a Latina sorority to the University of Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Rachel Moreno and Derdlim Henry, who were contacted through the Hispanic Student Association Listserv, also became interested in Lambda Theta Alpha and joined the group. In December 2003, the group was officially recognized as the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. at the University of Georgia. Ashley Reagin joined the Interest Group in March 2004, followed by Cristina Ruiz and Marilynn Delacruz in Fall 2004. On April 10, 2005, the Delta Alpha Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha was founded.
